6. Hit Submit

Remember, the MOST UP-TO-DATE schedule is found by going to the right-hand column where it says "Check Your Schedules Here". Click on Week 3.  It will be kept updated. Continue to inform me of your vacation schedules.

 Some quick reminders:
- Please try to keep the SRP table area neat & tidy. Please don't rearrange the items on the the SRP Table.
- By Week 3, things have usually slowed down significantly.  If it's slow, come to the Youth Services desk to see  if there is something you can help do.
- Continue to encourage participation and be friendly and inviting to the kids, teens, and adults who walk by.
- Along with leaving your cell phones off and tablets at home, please do not wear headphones during your volunteer shift.
- Also, we're adding a new element to SRP finishers, a certificate. Now whenever a child 0-5 or 6-11 completes all 16 challenges, you will hand them a certificate and they can write their name in. (these will be at the SRP Table). Teens may also have a certificate if they wish.
OK, that's all. You are doing a great job, everybody!

Extra Shift Sign Up Guidelines

Hello, everyone--

I know there has been some confusion about signing up for extra slots, and I'd like to help explain.

Before I start, I'd like to say that none of this is because of anything bad that you all have done. You're awesome volunteers, and I think it's great that you want to be here at the library all the time. But we need to give you breaks!

I had a nice long talk with Ms North, and we have come up with these two guidelines for signing up for extra slots:

1. All volunteers are limited to volunteering for two things per day. You can volunteer for two shifts at the desk, or one program and one volunteer shift at the desk, but no more than two volunteer "things" per day. We'd really like everyone to have a good chance at signing up, and we don't want you to be living at the library. It's not as glamorous as it sounds.

2. No volunteer can do two consecutive shifts. That means if you're signed up for 3-5 one day, you can't also sign up for 5-7. We appreciate your enthusiasm, but we don't want you to be sitting there for four hours without a break. That's how insanity starts, guys.

This is our first year using Sign Up Genius, so we're still working out how to best use it. That said, in the past when people emailed back and forth, it could get complicated really quickly. We're hoping Sign Up Genius can help to remove a lot of the "who emailed us first" confusion, and help you all sign up for shifts more quickly.

I hope this helps to clear things up. Please, please email me or call me if you have any questions. I am happy to talk to you about this.

And guys?

Week 1 is Done! (And some reminders)

Congratulations everyone! We have finished a fantastic first week of our Summer Reading Program! Thank you for coming to your shifts on time, being positive, and for bringing your enthusiasm to the Ashburn Library. We couldn't have a successful Summer Reading Program without you

Just a few reminders:

Scheduling:  Keep letting me know whenever you have vacation or you can't make your shift as soon as you know! The sooner you tell us, the sooner we can schedule a sub.

Cell Phone:  Do not text, play games, or use your cell phone or tablets during your shift. Period. Put these devices away during your shift so that you can appear approachable to patrons signing up for Summer Reading.

Be Early:  Always come a few minutes early for your shift so we can tell you any new information and so that the volunteers before you can leave their shift on time.

Boredom:  It will be slow sometimes during your shift in the coming weeks. Be prepared for librarians to give you other tasks to do such as help them with programs, make die-cut shapes, shelve books, etc. We also have a Volunteer Notebook that you can doodle in. Also, you can always bring a book with you to read! (Hardback or paperback only, no e-readers)

Tablets:  Please leave your tablets and e-readers at home during your shift. You can always bring a hardback or paperback book to read if your shift is slow.

Friends Stopping By:  While you are wearing your volunteer T-shirt you are at a job representing the Loudoun County Government. If your friends stop by and want to chat or hang out, tell them you will catch up with them later when your shift is over.

And finally, remember to smile!

Also, there is an extra sub shift available on Sign-Up genius tomorrow (Monday June 17th from 3-5 pm)
